Yesterday, 25th of November, the Ecology Department organised the 1st PopCom meeting (aproaches for connecting Population and Community ecology in the context of global change). We were able to carry it out in the “Casa de la Ciencia” of the CSIC, right in the heart of the city center.
During the day, each researcher, and mostly PhD students, had the opportunity to present their past, current and future work, allowing us to better understand each other’s scientific interests. Besides, we were able to discuss potential synergies between groups and research areas and to explore new ways of keeping the ecology groups at CIDE in closer scientific contact.
This meeting is expected to set a precedent for the coming years, and we are committed to organise an anual PopCom from now on. This space will allow CIDE ecologists, specially PhD students, to learn what their colleagues are working on and identify ways to strengthen and improve their own research.
