Our colleague Clara Gracia was able to attend the specialized course on time series analysis in ecology, organized by SIBECOL at the University of Barcelona.
During four intensive days, participants were immersed in a sea of dynamic data and specialized analytical methods. The course addressed a wide range of topics, from stock analysis to sensor evaluation, all within the context of time series.
Course highlights included advanced data pre-processing techniques, ranging from data manipulation and fusion to effective visualization. In addition, participants explored how to apply dynamic abundance models, regression models, and state space models to analyze evolving populations.
At the community level, the course provided a detailed overview of both occurrence-based and abundance-based analysis, providing valuable tools for understanding community dynamics over time.
Special attention was also devoted to climate data analysis, including anomaly detection and removal, data gap identification, and advanced imputation methods. Participants also explored spectral analysis techniques, correlation analysis and regression models applied to high frequency data.
This enriching experience has undoubtedly broadened Clara’s horizon and promises to generate significant new insights and discoveries in the field of ecology.
