Presenting at the 5th International Yew Meeting 2026

April 21, 2026

Last week, Daniel Arizpe, technician of the Centre for Forestry Research and Experimentation (CIEF), presented our results on the study of several yews (Taxus baccata) populations in the Valencian Comunity at the 5th International Yew Meeting in Requena (Valencia).

Over the past few months, we have collaborated on assessing the effect of seed origin on germination, seedling quality, and establishment in yew populations. We observed differences in heterogeneity among populations, as well as in their functional traits. For example, populations from more humid areas tend to be taller, show a more acquisitive leaf strategy, and have lower root investment and absorptive capacity compared to populations from more arid areas.

The results presented are preliminary, as further analyses are still ongoing and we even expected being able to collect additional data. We hope to continue this collaboration with CIEF in the future.
